The beautiful Lake Pleasant & Speculator Region encompasses the villages and towns of Arietta, Hope, Lake Pleasant, Wells, and Morehouse.  They are all a friendly crew, and why not?  They enjoy four seasons of fun!    They have numerous lakes, rivers, mountains and intersects two scenic byways (Route 3 and 30).  Hiking is a favorite here.  When the snow flies, the sleds come out.  Sleds are everywhere; on the sidewalks, on the trails, and off!  Hundreds and hundreds of trails.   This region is surrounded by state forest (Silver Lake Wilderness, West Canada Lake, Siamese Ponds Wilderness and Jessup River Wild Forest).  The Speculator Region boast 4 seasons of vacation fun, and rightly so!  Others say so as well, click here for local article of interest.  Visit their weather web cam next to the Camp of the Woods.

  • Arietta was named after the mother of one of the first settlers, and was settled around 1827 and formed officially in 1836 from the Town of Lake Pleasant.  Hamlets of Arietta include:  Avery's Place, Higgins Pay, Piseco, Powley Place (deserted), and Rudestone. Arietta enjoys Ferris Lake, Oxbow Lake, Piseco Lake and Spy Lake.

  • Hope was settled around 1790 and formed in 1818.  The town enjoys Bennett Lake, Middle Lake and Murphy Lake, with the hamlets of Hope Falls.

  • Lake Pleasant, the hub of Hamilton, hosting the county seat and many tourist attractions.  First settled in 1795 and formed in 1812.  Lake Pleasant was the 'mother town' of which many other towns were formed (Morehouse, Hope, Wells, and parts of Indian Lake and Long Lake).  In 1925, the community of Speculator formed the village that we all enjoy.  Lake Pleasant features Speculator and Blue Ridge Mountains, Vly Lake, Buckhorn Lake, Fawn Lake, Hamilton Lake, parts of Indian Lake, Lake Pleasant, Lewey Lake & Mountain, Owl Pond, Mud Lake, Sacandaga Lake (not be confused the the "Great" Sacandaga Lake), parts of Siamese Pond Wilderness Region. Wakely Dam, and Sacandaga River.

  • Morehouse in now a tiny town of 86!  Previously formed from Lake Pleasant and formed in 1835.  Some features include Beaver Lake, The Floe Lake, Fort Noble Mountain, parts of Indian Lake, Jerseyfield Lake, Moose River, Morehouse Lake, Pine Lake, Squaw Lake, Wilmurt Lake and South Branch of the West Canada Creek.  There are two hamlets called Hoffmeister and Morehouseville.

  • Wells was formed in 1805 and reportedly named after a settler "John Silman".  Wells supports the hamlets of Augur Falls, Gilmantown, Griffin, and Pumpkin Hollow.  Wells is part of the Siamese Pond Wilderness Region.
